How to drink enough water in a day?

Asked 4 years ago

I am trying to lose 20 pounds at the moment. Every article that I have read, suggests that you need to increase your water intake to assist with weight loss. I am trying my best, but can't seem to drink enough water in a day! Does anyone have any advice on how to make it easier to drink more water?

Add flavour drops to your water. You can get calorie-free drops at most health food stores or chemists.

Try adding some fruit and/or mint leaves to your water. It gives the water a sweeter taste, without adding flavoured sugar syrups.

I agree. You should add sugar-free flavoured water drops.

Freeze your water and sip it as it thaws, or add ice to your water and drink it with a straw. Ice-cold water is much more enjoyable than warm water.

Slice up your favourite fruit and add it to your water bottle. Let the water and fruit sit in the fridge overnight to soak. The next day, your water will taste almost like fruit juice!

They say that you should drink half your body weight in ounces. I'm currently at 160 ounces, so I know I need 80ozs of water per day. I try to drink 4 bottles that are 20oz each day. So I drink one bottle during my workout in the morning, one with my lunch, one with my dinner and then one before bed.

It becomes much more manageable if you split up your water intake logically and set goals for yourself, rather than just trying to drink more water.

I love warm water with lemon in it!

Try putting basil leaves in your water. I was never a big water drinker until I started doing this. Now, I can easily drink a gallon per day!

Lime juice is great but I wouldn't suggest that you add it to every glass. Try alternating with lime juice and just plain water on its own.

I always keep a stainless steel water container in my fridge. I fill it up with water and add:

  • Fruit (Strawberries, Blueberries, Cucumber, Grapefruit, Kiwi)
  • Fresh lemon slices
  • Lime juice
  • Fresh basil
  • Ice

Get yourself a big bottle or water jug and try to drink 2 of them per day. By lunchtime, you should have finished the first bottle, and by bedtime, you should have finished another bottle.

I prefer to drink carbonated water. It tastes much better, especially if you add lemon juice or flavour drops. It reminds me of soda.

Try drinking through a straw.

Always keep a bottle of water with you. You'll find yourself drinking it out of habit and because it's there.

Keep 8 full water bottles in your fridge and make sure they're gone before you go to bed.

Add flavoured amino acids to your water. That way, you'll be getting in enough water and amino acids at the same time! Plus, they taste great!

Always drink from a bottle, not a cup or glass.
