Low carb dieting tips for Type 1 diabetics?

Asked 4 years ago

I am a type 1 diabetic. Does anyone have any tips for eating a low carb diet and gym workouts or routines that could help?

I am not diabetic, but I try to keep my carbs low. I follow the ketogenic diet and that seems to be working for me.

When you follow a low carb diet, you need to increase your fat intake to compensate for the calories lost when you eliminate carbohydrates. Try to eat a lot of healthy fats and good protein sources. If your carbs are low enough, your body will go into ketosis and will become very efficient at burning fat as an energy source. My suggestion would be to add coconut oil, seeds, nuts, eggs, avocados, cheese, butter and cream to your diet. Try to stay clear from fruit, alcohol, beans, sugary foods and root vegetables, as these tend to be high in carbohydrates.

In terms of workout routines, try to include a combination of resistance training and cardio. I would suggest 3 strength sessions per week and 2 cardio sessions. Each session should be about 45 minutes long.
