Creating healthy habits for lifelong change will not make you lose 20 pounds overnight, or make you feel 10 years younger within a month. However, these changes will allow you to live a longer, happier and healthier life.

1. In order to lose weight, you need to be in a calorie deficit and in order to gain weight, you need to be in a calorie surplus. Use an online calculator to determine how many calories you need to consume each day in order to reach your specific health and fitness goals.

2. When it comes to health, food choices do matter. Some foods contain more vitamins, minerals and nutrients than others. Aim to eat 80% whole, natural and unprocessed foods and 20% "fun" and processed foods.

3. In order for your lifestyle changes to be sustainable, you should not deprive yourself of anything. All foods can be good for you, in moderation.

4. To make lasting changes, you will need to find your balance. You will not be able to diet and give your 100% effort in the gym every day. It is important to find a healthy, maintainable middle ground.

5. For a happier and healthier lifestyle, you will need to identify the sources of stress in your life and actively make changes to reduce these stressors.

6. Aim for at least 8 hours of good quality sleep per night. Your body needs sleep in order to rest, recover and recuperate.

7. For your training to be maintainable, you need to have fun while exercising. Try different sports or fitness modalities until you find a form of exercise that you truly enjoy.

8. Do not try to make multiple lifestyle changes at once. This can be very overwhelming. Aim to make 1 or 2 changes at a time for more successful long term lifestyle habits.

9. Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.

10. Be patient! Making lifestyle changes that stick won't happen overnight. It will not be a fast or easy process. However, if you stick it out and change your habits now, you will thank yourself in the future.
