The Atkins diet is a low-carbohydrate diet which is well-known for its weight loss benefits. The diet was developed by cardiologist Robert Atkins to change eating habits in order to help with weight loss and weight management. Apart from its weight loss benefits, the Atkins diet is believed to have a number of health benefits and may prevent and treat a variety of chronic and lifestyle diseases.

Due to the types of food consumed, the diet may reduce hunger and suppress appetite, leading to further weight loss. The diet is also known to be effective at combating obesity and type 2 diabetes. Followers of the diet have been able to lose up to 15 pounds within the first 2 weeks of following the diet.

The Atkins diet may reduce many of the risk factors for heart disease, including blood triglycerides, cholesterol, blood sugar, insulin resistance, and blood pressure. The diet may also improve blood sugar, “good” HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and other health markers.

The diet has also been used as an effective treatment and management method for a number of diseases and illnesses, including epilepsy and related illnesses, acid reflux, acne, headaches, heart disease, cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), diabetes and insulin resistance, dementia and narcolepsy.
